Get to know Brynn

Thank you for visiting my website! My name is Brynn Buenaventura Cortez, I’m a 28-year-old Hispanic trans woman, wife, cat mom of two, and dog mom. I’m a bookkeeper and accounting clerk by day, and a musician and performer by night! By night, I’m producing my own electronic music and planning upcoming shows as a performer for Spokane Pride. I also make sure I spend lots of quality time with my husband and our three furry creatures.

I was born and raised in Spokane! My earliest memories take place in an apartment complex right in the heart of Downtown Spokane. I was maybe 4 or 5 at the time. Whenever my biological parents would take a trip to the local office supply store - it was called “Kinko’s” at the time - I insisted on tagging along, just because I loved getting to play around with the various office supplies.

After I graduated from Cheney High School in 2016, I spent several years feeling like my work life had no direction. I drifted aimlessly from odd job to odd job, and while some of these jobs helped me gain customer service experience, I was never really certain what I wanted to do as a career. I’d also spent my whole life up to that point never really considering experimenting with my gender identity, because as a child, I watched a family member get kicked out for simply coming out as bisexual. So, needless to say, consideration of my sexual orientation was off the table, let alone any thoughts about my gender identity.

Then, in June of 2020, my good non-binary friend offered a sunflower dress for me to try on. I remember trying it on, walking to the bathroom mirror, striking a pose in the mirror, and sobbing. That moment was my “egg cracking”, as they say. What followed was several months of experimentation! I tried different clothes, different makeup, different pronouns, different gender identities and different styles of presentation and expression. Ultimately, in February of 2023, I realized after all that experimentation that I am simply a woman with she/her pronouns! That is who I am at my core, and that is who I have always been.

2026

In April of 2022, I landed my first office job as a remote full-time billing specialist working for a global environmental consulting company called ENGIE Impact. This was my first real foot in the door to the world of finance, billing, accounting, and office jobs. Then, in January of 2024, I decided to take a leap of faith and enrolled in Spokane Community College’s two-year online program to receive an AAS as an Accounting Assistant. I’m very proud to say that I graduated with honors in June of 2025! I additionally received an Accounting Clerk Certificate, a Microsoft Excel Advanced Badge, and a five-month internship’s worth of valuable experience from a local accounting business.

It is now Spring of 2026, and in terms of my personal journey, I’ve spent more than three years as the woman I’ve always been on the inside, and I’m approaching a combined three years total of hormone replacement therapy! In terms of my applicable experience, I currently have a combined three years of office and accounting experience, an Associate’s Degree as an Accounting Assistant, an Accounting Clerk certificate, and a Microsoft Excel Advanced Badge (click the badge for details), all alongside a combined history of ten years of experience in customer service roles serving a wide range of people in the Spokane County and beyond!

The future of Brynn’s Bookkeeping

I have big dreams for the future. I would LOVE for Brynn’s Bookkeeping to become Cortez Accounting some day, offering fully-fledged queer-friendly tax and accounting services at unbeatable prices from a welcoming physical office in Spokane, employed by queer people, providing services for queer people. Spokane deserves that. The queer community of my hometown deserves that!
